Eating Out of the Pantry In April

Whoo!  So our yard sale is over, Once A Month Cooking is over but no worries we have lots of fun things going on here at the Jordan household. Looking ahead, in about a month we will be heading to Daytona Beach for a month.  We take this trip annually with the college ministry we work with. We will be living there alongside over 100 college students doing ministry together, it makes for a wild experience!  Knowing we will be leaving in a month's time, gave me the idea that we should probably eat down the staples, stockpile, and Once A Month Cooking that we have on hand before we leave.  So we will be eating out of our pantry for the rest of the month of April and into mid-May.  This means that we will make it a goal to spend only $20 a week for our household and grocery needs/essentials.  I am looking forward to this challenge that we have previously taken on, both in November and January.

In addition to taking on this challenge, I would also like to have a Once A Month Cooking day before we go to Daytona.  It will be helpful to have some food on hand when we get there while we get settled for our stay.  I have enjoyed our previous experiences of Once A Month Cooking in February, March, and April.  The great thing about both Eating Out Of The Pantry and Once A Month Cooking is it can be tailored and adapted to your families' needs.  I was very intimidated by both initially, but after trying them they have really served our family well. If you are going out of town for an extended period this summer or just need to eat down some of your stockpile give the Eating Out of the Pantry a try!

Have you ever taken on the Eating Out Of the Pantry Challenge?  If so, how did it go?

  1. How did the garage sale go?

Since we are moving to Texas in August, I'm trying to eat out of the pantry for the next few months.

  2. It went great! Thanks for asking! We made over $500 dollars. We have a rocker and ottoman on craigslist as well as a china cabinet. We are hoping to sell those as well. Keep me updated on your eating out of the pantry! I love hearing about the creativity and ingenuity that is created during eating out of the pantry for others.

  3. We do this as well when it's time to leave for an extended period of time. I find it's a great excuse to skip going to the grocery store. :)

  4. We started in February. I just started restocking our supplies last week. It was amazing all the food we didn't know we had in the house. I am going to do this once a month. I will keep shopping to a minimum the last week of the month.

  5. Anon, I know isn't it amazing all the food you discover that you have? I enjoy the creative part too, though sometimes the menu items have been a little scary.

Christie, I am with you. Are you guys going anywhere this summer?

  6. We'velived from our pantry for two years, and we're currently doing it again. I don't know how long it will continue, or when I can go shopping again, but I'm thankful for the food we have to eat, and for the food growing in the garden!
